Menstrual Health Awareness Program for Rural Girls and Women
About the Initiative
For generations, whispers and taboos have shrouded menstruation, leaving countless girls and women in rural communities to navigate a natural biological process in silence, often without accurate information or essential dignity.
During 2021-2022, Sulabh Jivan Foundation embarked on a deeply impactful journey into the heart of Khed Taluka, reaching the Thakar tribal community across Thakarwadi, Varude, Jaulke, Kanersar, Gulani, Gosasi, Nimgaon, and Davadi villages. Here, we launched a crucial public awareness program on menstrual health.
Imagine the relief, the understanding, and the newfound confidence that blossomed as approximately 300 tribal girls and women finally received the scientific, compassionate guidance they deserved. Through video conferencing, our dedicated volunteer, Dr. Rakhi Shende, thoughtfully broke down centuries of misinformation, replacing fear with knowledge and embarrassment with empowerment.
This wasn't just about information; it was about restoring dignity, fostering health, and empowering women to understand their own bodies without shame. It was about creating a future where every girl can embrace her womanhood with confidence and pride.
