Environmentally Friendly Cloth Bag Initiative (2023-2024)
About the Initiative
This initiative tackles pressing issues in Khed taluka (Pune district) by addressing both environmental pollution and women's empowerment.
At the heart of this initiative is the empowerment of women. With financial support from Hon. Prof. Dr. Vidula Swami Kolhapur, we engaged women in the creation of these cloth bags, providing them with a valuable source of income. A total of 30 women were given "work from home" opportunities, fostering their independence and contributing to their families' well-being.
Through the dedicated efforts of these women, a total of 9,450 cloth bags were produced. These bags were then strategically distributed in major vegetable and weekly markets in Chakan and Rajgurunagar cities. This distribution served a dual purpose: providing an immediate eco-friendly alternative and raising crucial public awareness about reducing plastic use and promoting reuse.
